Middle grade books by John H. Matthews:
Ace Adler and the Pendulum of Doom
Runt
I am available for classroom visits for my middle grade books! Please contact me to discuss details and appearance rates. During visits I read a chapter, if appropriate for the grade level, ask questions about the chapter for reading comprehension skills, and answer questions from the students. I can also talk about storytelling, elements of writing (use of point of view, use of tense, creating believable characters, writing dialogue, etc). I will work with teachers to focus my presentation based on the class age and what they are covering in Language Arts.
Here’s what some classes have said:
Mr. Matthews was engaging from the moment he walked in the door! He captured the attention of the students and held onto it until he walked out of the door. His wit and humor had the kids laughing and excited about his presentation. He shared his story, read the first chapter of his newly released book, Ace Adler and the Pendulum of Doom, and answered all of the questions the kids had for him. He was motivating, honest about his journey as an author, and thoughtful in his responses to the students. He also took the time to sign copies of his book that students brought in. I highly recommend inviting Mr. Matthews into your classroom. You won’t regret it!

When Mr. Matthews comes in for an author’s visit, he shows some of the books he made. His visit was amazing and his books are enchanting! When he read the first chapter of his book, it made me want to read the whole thing and see how it all unfolded!

His presentation was engaging and really well done! I hope to see him again when the next Ace Adler book is released.

He was funny and accurately answered the questions we asked. He also shared a little bit about himself and he even brought a draft of his novel and told us the stages it takes to publish a book.

I really like how Mr. Matthews added a sense of humor to his presentation. It made the presentation so enjoyable!
